CAN BANAL
At the foot of the Pyrenees in Spain is the beautiful natural campground, Camping Can Banal. The owner is from the Netherlands, so there is no language problem for Dutch travelers. The campsite is only 70 km from the French/Spanish border (by Perpignan), near Olot. This site is for real campers with a tent. There is no room for caravans, and there are just a few places suitable for a camper.
On the other hand, for the nature photographer, it is truly paradise found. Only 6 hectares of the 80 hectare site is used for camping, the rest is like a nature preserve. Swarms of butterflies and many types of dragonflies can be found in the stream valleys. The most beautiful butterfly in Spain, the Two Tailed Pasha (Charaxes jasius) can be photographed right from your tent. Simply place an overripe plum just outside your tent door, and the butterfly will visit you.
There is also a lot to do nearby. Several group excursions are available, and also self-guided trails for individual use. For more information, please click the link below.
